Course overview
Students will learn to examine and identify young children’s intuitive construction of mathematical understanding and processes in an integrated way, through observing children at play and whilst engaged in numeracy experiences. They will learn about early mathematical concept development and multi-modal mathematical language to model to children, colleagues and caregivers. Students will develop child-centred, play-based approaches to respond to very young children’s mathematical and conceptual development. Students will apply planning and evaluation strategies according to the EYLF planning cycle, with an emphasis on informal play-based approaches.
