Course overview

This course will focus on the philosophical and evidence-informed approaches to wellbeing in families, society, and communities and how to advance society’s prosperity, wellbeing and cohesion by addressing inequality and trauma in culturally diverse communities. The course explores how to cultivate wellbeing and explore differences between cultural factors, drawing on research from education, psychology, organisational psychology and the social sciences. Students will learn about philosophical approaches to wellbeing and systems-level and community perspectives that contribute to societal wellbeing, resilience and cohesion.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify social processes impacting children, young people and their families
  • Understand and critically examine changing family contexts and impacts on children and young people
  • Identify and explain aspects of child safety, protection and abuse and respond effectively to assist children and young people while maintaining safe, inclusive learning and living environments
  • Understand and critically apply evidence-based approaches to support children and young people, their families and communities
