This course equips students with theoretical and practical knowledge to critically analyze, navigate, and strategize within an evolving global trade environment—emphasizing sustainability, digitalization, and emerging geoeconomic shifts.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyse contemporary theories and emerging trends in international trade, including sustainability, digitalization, and geoeconomic fragmentation, with a focus on regional trade agreements.
  • Critically evaluate and apply practical tools in international trade, encompassing non-tariff measures, trade–investment linkages, supply chain resilience, and new industrial policies.
  • Investigate frontier topics and assess their impact on global trade competitiveness and policy.
  • Examine how international trade agreements shape domestic legislation, particularly Australian trade policy, and explore the implications for national economic objectives.
  • Construct arguments and/or influence audiences, reflecting current global challenges and opportunities.
