Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide students with a strong foundation in the principles of economics and personal finance, as well as the skills required to make informed decisions regarding economic and personal finance matters in today's world. The course covers various topics in economics and personal finance, including the economic way of thinking, market demand and supply, the elasticity of demand and supply, measuring the size of the economy, unemployment and inflation, the personal financial planning process, personal financial statements, tools, and budgets, personal income taxes, and credit cards and consumer loans.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the principles of economics, including the economic way of thinking, market demand and supply, the elasticity of demand and supply, market structures, measurement of the size of the economy, inflation, and unemployment
- Apply microeconomic and macroeconomic knowledge and skills to make informed decisions in today's world
- Explain the principles of personal finance, including the financial planning process, financial statements, income taxes, cash and savings, credit cards, and consumer loans
- Apply personal financial knowledge and skills to make informed decisions in today's world
- Evaluate and present a national economic issue or a personal financial issue based on a predetermined set of criteria
