Course overview

This course introduces students to a wide variety of techniques and methods used by the earth sciences industry. Students will be provided with knowledge and a framework to use selected techniques to address specific industry challenges. Students will generate new geological, geophysics and/or geochemical data to develop integrated geologic models to advance scientific knowledge and understanding of industry challenges. 

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of a geological challenge in the earth sciences industry
  • Describe the types of common industry challenges and how they might be resolved
  • Plan and undertake a research data collection using appropriate methods and techniques to solve a challenge
  • Interpret a range of geological, geophysical and/or geochemical datasets
  • Communicate the results and interpretation of the scientific study and explain how it addresses an industry challenge
  • Manage and organise an earth sciences research project in timely manner
