Course overview
This course introduces students to a wide variety of techniques and methods used by the earth sciences industry. Students will be provided with knowledge and a framework to use selected techniques to address specific industry challenges. Students will generate new geological, geophysics and/or geochemical data to develop integrated geologic models to advance scientific knowledge and understanding of industry challenges.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of a geological challenge in the earth sciences industry
- Describe the types of common industry challenges and how they might be resolved
- Plan and undertake a research data collection using appropriate methods and techniques to solve a challenge
- Interpret a range of geological, geophysical and/or geochemical datasets
- Communicate the results and interpretation of the scientific study and explain how it addresses an industry challenge
- Manage and organise an earth sciences research project in timely manner
