Course overview
Students are introduced to scientific ethics, writing, and the visual display of quantitative data in multiple contexts. Students perform writing tasks devised to support thesis. Guest speakers discuss transferrable skills important for student career development, including preparing for field work, job hunting, mental wellbeing and strategies for coping with stress and anxiety. Students are assessed via class discussions, small writing assignments and an end of term poster.

- Review – Perform a literature search
- Plan/Design Research – Develop a research plan with short and long-term goals, including clearly defined hypotheses and clear aims
- Write – Write a technical report in the form of a scientific paper
- Present – Produce a visual presentation and orally present/discuss their own and related research
- Ethics – Understand the importance of ethics and personal wellbeing to become a valuable member of the scientific community and society
