Course overview
This course aims to provide students with an in-depth theoretical and practical understanding of the techniques and steps involved in the search, survey, excavation, preparation, curation and management of invertebrate and vertebrate fossils and sites.
Course learning outcomes
- Recognise sedimentary deposits capable of preserving fossils and apply the principal elements of fossil excavation
- Prepare a basic fieldtrip for a palaeontological excavation
- Learn how to extract, annotate (context recording), prepare, preserve and catalogue fossils
- Understand the multidisciplinary nature of modern palaeontology and the importance of collaborative research
- Communicate aspects of palaeontological discovery and heritage to their peers and the community in accessible language

If you are an international student, or a domestic student studying in a full fee paying place, and are continuing study that you commenced in 2025 or earlier, your fees will be available here before enrolments open for 2026.
