Course overview

This course provides students with a detailed understanding of cybercrime, exploring the reasons why cybercrimes occur, as well as how they can be policed and prevented. This will be accomplished in three parts. First, students will develop a deep knowledge of both historical and contemporary forms of cybercrime. Next, students will explore the application of relevant criminological theories to understand pathways into cybercrime offending. Finally, students will critically appraise and evaluate the current state of policing, crime control, and prevention strategies for cybercrime.

  • Identify the key principles and theoretical debates surrounding the onset and desistance from various forms of cybercrime
  • Identify and apply contemporary research data to understanding real-world crime problems
