Course overview

This course provides students with an overview of a variety of topics relating to the use of forensics in criminal justice settings across various stages of a crime, including forensic science, forensic psychology, and digital forensics. Students will explore techniques across these fields used to investigate crimes, including the collection and interpretation of crime scene evidence, and understanding criminal motives from a psychological perspective. Students will also explore the prosecution of crimes and processes involved with criminal justice decision making, focusing on biases.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of forensic science techniques and digital evidence collection methods to collect and interpret evidence
  • Apply knowledge of crime scene identification and management processes to simulated crime events
  • Critically analyse criminal behaviour from a psychological perspective
  • Evaluate the impact of evidence presentation in a courtroom setting on judicial decision making
