Course overview

This course provides students the opportunity to explore social media and digital storytelling through a substantive research project on a topic of their choosing. The project can be presented as either a content creation project proposal and exegesis, or a written research dissertation, demonstrating deep engagement with concepts taught throughout the Digital and Social Media Storytelling Major. In completing this substantive project, students will put to work the theoretical, conceptual, and practical skills they have built across their program, resulting in a deep, critically informed understanding of their chosen research area.

Course learning outcomes

  • design and execute an individual research project in the field of online storytelling
  • evaluate and synthesise research findings to build expertise in chosen area of focus
  • communicate research findings clearly through either a written dissertation or a substantive content creation proposal with exegesis
  • constructively provide and respond to feedback and critique in a peer-to-peer setting
