Course overview
This course builds on a sound knowledge of data structures and logic to develop a deep knowledge of database technology and its role in the management of large and persistent data storage. Students will design and develop databases using diagrammatic representation, relational database management systems (RDBMS) and new model database paradigms. These databases will be implemented over unified and distributed frameworks to develop knowledge and skill in the applications of theory and best practice.
Course learning outcomes
- Describe database types, including the relational model, non-relational and non-SQL databases
- Design database solutions for a set of information using ER-diagrams, client interviews, and data prototypes
- Construct database schemas in a range of software platforms
- Evaluate appropriate database solutions for given data and use cases
- Deploy database solutions in local, remote, and distributed environments
