Course overview

This course aims to equip students with the skills to design artificial intelligence (AI) systems that prioritise human needs and values. Combining insights from AI, human-computer interaction (HCI), psychology, and ethics, it fosters an understanding of how to build responsible and beneficial AI-driven technologies. Students will engage in practical projects to develop interactive systems, gain experience in enhancing usability, and learn to critically assess the integration of AI in society, ensuring these technologies are both impactful and ethical.

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe AI and human-centered design principles on interactive AI systems
  • Identify and address ethical and cultural concerns in AI design, ensuring systems promote fairness, transparency, and accountability
  • Apply state-of-the-art AI and machine learning to build complex interactive AI systems that are usable and beneficial to humans
  • Effectively manage AI projects, clearly communicating the system's value and its alignment with user needs
