Course overview
To develop skills in the use of computer technology as a tool in visualisation and problem solving, in particular through the use of the C programming language and SolidWorks. To develop skills in understanding and producing 3D engineering models and engineering drawings. To develop basic programming skills.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the need for engineers to produce and use a standard format of engineering drawings that defines an item to be built.
- Visualise mechanical, civil and electrical items into their geometric parameters and using SolidWorks software create a 3D solid model of the item.
- Communicate design intent by using SolidWorks to create part and assembly drawings of an item to AS1100 that defines size, shape, materials, tolerances (linear, geometric and fits) and surface finish; details of assembly using section and exploded views; plus provide photo rendered images and animations of the design.
- Analyse and explain the behaviour of simple programs involving fundamental programming constructs.
- Design, implement, test and debug a program that uses each of the following fundamental programming constructs: basic computation, simple I/O, conditional and iterative structures, and functions.
- Communicate appropriately with professional colleagues through source code documentation and demonstrate the capacity to apply international coding style standards, guidelines and good programming practices.
