Course overview
This course will develop the expertise of professionals in the principles and techniques of social media management, and online engagement and collaboration to support an organisation's strategic communication efforts. This course prepares the communication professional with the necessary knowledge and skills required in managing an organisation's presence in a constantly changing media landscape. Structured on a theoretical framework from the communication management and culture studies disciplines, the course covers the principles of online communities, emergent media tools and platforms, and the integration of offline and online communication techniques. It will extend students' skills in research, measurement, evaluation, policy development, risk management and regulation into the environment of netizens, citizen journalists, bloggers, gamers and crowdsourcing.
Course learning outcomes
- Evaluate the effectiveness of organisational online communication across a variety of social media channels.
- Understand and apply the principles of social media management to support organisational goals.
- Demonstrate how social media and emergent technologies are used for research, monitoring and evaluation of communication activities.
- Develop a range of strategic social media content for various applications and platforms.
