Course overview

To introduce students to knowledge of and essential skills in news journalism.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify, source and develop news story ideas at community level reporting
  • Develop research skills using primary and secondary sources to provide a strong fact-based foundation for journalistic storytelling
  • Identify and secure relevant interviewees in a timely manner, while applying the principles of inclusion and diversity
  • Practise writing and structuring news stories under real world conditions, including adherence to deadlines
