Course overview

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the principles of effective professional communication, and to develop skills in planning, developing, evaluating, and revising written, visual, and verbal communication content. Students will be introduced to the critical analysis of the written and visual aspects of a wide range of professional communication texts to understand how effective communications are constructed. Students will develop skills in creating communication materials by evaluating, drafting, and revising a range of professional and technical communication pieces, using the principles of reader-centredness, usability, and persuasiveness. The course also introduces students to visual communication and design principles, and discusses the importance of effective verbal and interpersonal communication in a professional context.
