Course overview
This course aims to provide foundation laboratory techniques including spectroscopy appropriate to the analysis of drugs and related compounds. Overview of selected analytical techniques and their application in the pharmaceutical and allied industries. Conduct experiments in a scenario-based environment and apply the knowledge gained to the interpretation of molecular structure. Discussion of QC requirements in different laboratory environments. Application of appropriate statistical methods in the analysis and interpretation of data. Examine the theory and application of a range of spectroscopic techniques eg UV-VIS, IR, NMR and mass spectrometry.
Course learning outcomes
- Discuss various techniques for the analysis of pharmaceutical chemicals including atoms, ions, molecules and biotechnology products
- Design and validate laboratory techniques and assays for a selected range of drugs and pharmaceuticals
- Apply best practice principles to a range of laboratory techniques.
- Interpret and present data obtained using appropriate statistical techniques.
