Course overview
The aim of this course is to examine how the physical environment can be designed and managed to achieve desired event outcomes for businesses and consumers. Through the lens of environmental management, it recognises that event experiences are shaped by physical settings on a range of spatial scales. The cultural landscape; creative places; eventful cities; destination art; venues and services management; servicescapes; service quality; facilities management; selling space; connecting with place; eventscapes.
Course learning outcomes
- Analyse factors which create diversity in the type and form of cultural venues.
- Compare and evaluate the impact of stakeholder relationships at different spatial scales.
- Synthesise the relationship between environmental settings and service quality.
- Evaluate the use of design as a communication strategy.
- Apply concepts from psychology and marketing to achieve venue management objectives.
- Critically evaluate the role of venues in urban development.
- Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills: i) Problem Solving (intermediate level); ii) Ethical Awareness (advanced level); iii) Written Communication (advanced level); iv) Oral Communication (intermediate level); and v) International Perspective (advanced level)
