Course overview
In this course, students will examine philanthropy and fundraising in the context of the arts ecology, and provide students with an understanding of the arts as an industry, the organisations in it, covering the application of strategic management and planning processes, managing the arts as business and income generation approaches from the perspective of diversifying funding. Strategic planning and management; financial management and business planning; income generation; fundraising and sponsorship including submission writing; and entrepreneurial management in the arts, control and evaluation.
Course learning outcomes
- Construct and appraise a strategic plan for enhanced philanthropy and its application to an arts organisation.
- Create and critically evaluate an application for funding from various government and philanthropic sources.
- Synthesise and apply strategies for earned revenue from arts activities.
- Formulate and critically evaluate financial plans and budgets for a year's program of an arts organisation.
- Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Arts and Cultural Management discipline: i) Problem Solving (advanced level); ii) Teamwork (advanced level); and iii) Oral Communication (advanced level).
