Course overview
This course contextualises the work of the arts manager in relation to its environment, its expectations and its stakeholders, focusing in particular on working with people. It addresses the specialised knowledge and skills required for effective arts management. Managing complex environments and professionalising arts management; dynamics of arts management; innovation and entrepreneurship in the arts; strategic arts management; arts management careers; HR practices; communication skills.
Course learning outcomes
- Examine and interpret the complexity and contradictions of the context in which the arts sector functions.
- Appraise and illustrate communication skills, group dynamics and management within the context of the arts.
- Interpret the personnel and career practices of artistic and support workers.
- Analyse and apply the attributes and skills required of an arts manager across a range of sectors in the arts.
