Course overview

This course will enrich skills and knowledge framed by professional opportunities through small business management and self employment practices related to the art and design industries. Students will develop and draw upon their knowledge and skills of business management, business information systems, financial management including taxation, strategic planning, intellectual property, copyright, moral rights and trademarks as relevant to their discipline fields.
Students will develop knowledge and skills for navigating the art and design policy and funding environment including grant sourcing and applications, relevant industry associations for artists and designers, communication skills and strategies and collaborative and community art and design practice.

Course learning outcomes

  • identify personal and professional goals within the students chosen creative field
  • synthesise and apply business planning and enterprise development principles to propose a feasible creative enterprise
  • explain the focus, goals and proposed actions to be undertaken to establish a creative enterprise
