Course overview
The aim of this course is to provide a managerial perspective of project management and understanding of the strategic importance of projects in achieving organisational objectives. The aim of this course is to equip in evaluating and applying project management processes across the phases of the project life cycle to conceptualise, communicate and justify projects and to effectively plan, manage, execute and deliver projects to completion. Overview of the project environment and project management methodology; strategic evaluation and selection of appropriate project aligned with organisational objectives; conceptualisation and design of business projects; developing project management skills; introduction of project management tools and techniques; the management of project risks and project stakeholders; project planning and control; principles of scheduling, budgeting, and cost estimates; resource allocation; project closure, evaluation and reporting techniques.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the project environment, and the relationships of projects with business operations and strategy to achieve organisational objectives.
- Discuss the importance of defining project deliverables and communicating effectively in managing stakeholders' expectations towards the project success.
- Discuss and demonstrate the importance of project team collaboration in achieving successful project outcomes.
- Critically consider and apply the appropriate project management knowledge, concepts, tools and methodology needed to support effective projects, across each stage of the project's life cycle from conceptualisation to closure.
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of managing project risks throughout the entire project life cycle.
- Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Management discipline: i) Teamwork (advanced level); and ii) Written Communication (advanced level).
