Course overview

The aim of this course is to develop students' understanding of the theory, strategies and competencies for talent management in organisations, namely job analysis and design, recruitment, selection, onboarding, retention, learning and talent development. Employment market analysis; job analysis: attraction and recruitment of potential employees; assessment of candidates; selection tools and techniques: legal regulation of hiring; formal and informal organisational socialisation; recognising diversity; person-job, person-organisation, person-workgroup fit; talent development; processes for identifying talent development needs and solutions; adult learning; evaluation of talent acquisition and development programs.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically evaluate and appraise the importance of attraction, recruitment and selection to organisational success.
  • Integrate and explain the legal obligations of the parties as they apply in talent acquisition practices.
  • Critically evaluate options for staffing systems technology.
  • Construct plans and strategies to identify strategic learning and talent development needs and solutions.
  • Critically analyse relevant theories with regards to the design and delivery of talent development programs.
  • Select strategies to evaluate talent acquisition and workplace learning and development outcomes.
  • Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Human Resource Management discipline: i) Ethical Awareness (intermediate level); and ii) Written Communication (intermediate level).
