Course overview
The aim of this course is to allow students to investigate and experience the different types of management problems and decisions that exist in organisations today by developing skills in problem solving analysis and communication. Types of problems and decisions; types of problem solvers and decision makers (decision styles, worldviews); approaches to problem solving and decision making; creativity and innovation in problem solving and decision making; tools and techniques to support problem solving and decision making; collaborative and individual decision making.
Course learning outcomes
- Identify and explain the characteristics of different types of management problems and decisions, problem solvers and decision makers and approaches to problem solving and decision making.
- Explain how the characteristics of different types of problem solver and decision maker influence the way managers solve different types of problems and make decisions.
- Examine different approaches to problem solving and management decision making through various methods, including business meetings and technology-aided communication.
- Propose and present creative and innovative solutions to a series of business problems.
- Collaborate with others in decision making activities using collaborative technologies.
- Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Management discipline: i) Problem Solving (advanced level); ii) Teamwork (advanced level); iii) Written Communication (advanced level); and iv) Oral Communication (advanced level).
