Course overview

This course promotes an in-depth understanding of sustainability and its effect on the supply chain. It equips students with the critical strategic, managerial and ethical perspectives for developing, implementing and addressing environmental, social and economic value in the context of global supply chain operations. Content includes: Sustainability concepts, standards, issues and governance pertaining to supply chain operations; including green distribution systems, sustainable warehousing, product design for cleaner production, ethical sourcing and supply, closed loop systems and balancing trade-offs and different corporate social responsibilities in a supply chain; strategies to implement and operationalise sustainable supply chains.

Course learning outcomes

  • Examine economic, environmental and social value in terms of sustainability standards, practices and issues associated with supply chain operations.
  • Analyse sustainability planning and decision-making situations faced by managers in a global context and how they affect the supply chain.
  • Recommend solutions for problems in sustainable supply management, operations, and logistics.
  • Effectively communicate the strategies for achieving sustainable supply chains in today's competitive business environment.
  • Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management discipline: i) Ethical Awareness (advanced level); and ii) International Perspective (advanced level).
