Course overview
In this course students will develop a framework for analysing opportunities and risks in a global business environment, by examining the interaction of the political, economic, and cultural forces that shape production, trade flows and other variables that create the global landscape of business. The course also illustrates how globalisation influences strategy and performance within organisations and examines organisation-level decisions in the context of global forces. Introduction to international business environment; globalisation of markets and internationalisation of the firm; theories of international trade; cultural environment of international business; political and legal environments of international business; economic environment of international business; technological and ecological environment; government intervention and regional economic integration; understanding emerging markets and entry mode choice; international production, ethics and corporate social responsibilities.
Course learning outcomes
- Examine the structure and features of the global marketplace and its global institutions.
- Compare and contrast how the global business environment affects the operations and strategies of international business and evaluate their relationship.
- Critically evaluate the various means of international engagement and decision making in international business using international business resources, theories and principles.
