Course overview
The aim of this course is to give students insights into the underlying principles and concepts of entrepreneurship, and its practical role in creating enterprises, whether in the for-profit sector or in the field of social entrepreneurship. Ideas and opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation; generating and screening new venture ideas in social and commercial contexts; product or service positioning and targeting; target market selection and evaluation; assessing entrepreneurial risk; the entrepreneurial process; organising the range of resources needed to create a new venture; ethical considerations; developing a practical feasibility study for a new venture idea.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the difference between ideas for new ventures and viable venture opportunities.
- Recognise the similarities and differences between social and commercial ideas and opportunities.
- Identify customer and market segments and the relevance for new venture opportunity.
- Describe the entrepreneurial process and how it relates to new venture ideas.
- Demonstrate team performance to prepare and report the feasibility of an idea for a new venture opportunity.
