Course overview

This course provides an overview of the role of digital information and technology in today's digital world and introduces students to the analytical skills, tools and techniques required to be successful in business. Managing Operations in today's digital world; Operations Strategy; Designing Products and Services; Making products; Locations and Layout; Managing capacity; Managing Inventory control; Managing Quality; Managing the supply network with information; Improving business operations.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify, and apply business operations principles to the production, logistics, delivery and distribution elements in manufacturing and service industries.
  • Explain and apply appropriate analytical tools and methods that assist in the management of business operations in todays digital world in a professional context.
  • Critically evaluate decision making, policies and strategies for business operations and compare and contrast these with bricks and clicks businesses.
  • Communicate cohesive solutions to business operations problems.
