Course overview

The course aims to develop students’ ability to apply Building Information Modelling (BIM) principles and digital construction methodologies across the project lifecycle. Students will gain practical skills in creating, integrating, and analysing 3D models, simulating construction sequences (4D), and performing cost planning (5D) using industry-standard tools. Emphasis is placed on collaborative workflows, compliance with BIM standards, and critical evaluation of digital processes to support informed decision-making in sustainable building and infrastructure projects.

  • BIM Fundamentals
  • 3D BIM Development and Model Integration
  • Construction Sequencing and 4D BIM Integration
  • 5D BIM for Quantification and Cost Management

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate the integration of digital construction methodologies, including BIM principles and VR Headsets, to optimise project workflows and communication channels in real-world scenarios
  • Apply life cycle and system thinking to critically assess digital construction techniques, demonstrating proficiency in managing diverse projects effectively
  • Demonstrate effective communication through technical reports and visual presentations to foster collaboration and knowledge dissemination in digital construction contexts
  • Utilise BIM software and VR headsets for autonomous exploration and problem-solving, enhancing technological competence in construction management tasks
  • Synthesize research findings on emerging technologies, integrating environmental considerations for sustainable project planning and execution
  • Engage in interdisciplinary teamwork, fostering creativity and valuing diverse perspectives while upholding ethical and professional standards in construction management challenges
