Course overview

To develop students' understanding of the healthy human body including integrative physiology and cell biology that underpins pathophysiology.

  • Git, Energy And Nervous System
  • Musculoskeletal System, Genetics, Neoplasia
  • Immune System, Vaccination And Microbiology

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply scientific and medical terminology to describe the structure and function of systems within the human body
  • Describe the normal structure and function of cells and tissues of the immune, digestive, muscular, skeletal, nervous system and special senses
  • Explain how the body systems investigated in in this course interact with other systems to maintain homeostasis
  • Analyse the characteristics and mechanisms of common infections (and the microbes that cause them), assess risk factors, and evaluate strategies for prevention and treatment
  • Explain the principles behind the different types of human genetic inheritance and use this to predict outcomes
  • Explain the process of normal cell division, including its regulation and quality control mechanisms, and identify the common failures that lead to neoplasia
  • Communicate physiological principles with clarity as part of the care of a client
