Course overview
To provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge of the application of accounting and financial operational information to inform effective management decision making. This is achieved by exploring the roles of accounting and financial information in organisational management and leadership, business strategy and business conduct, from an end-user perspective. Students will achieve proficiency in the analysis of the main accounting statements, budgeting, the development of key ratios to assess the financial health and financial performance of companies, use of annual report, and be introduced to the financial evaluation of capital investments.

- Critically assess the roles of accounting and financial information in managerial decision making
- Commentate on the accounting and financial information and tools commonly used to assess corporate financial performance and health and apply key ratios and time value of money methods in corporate financial analysis
- Critically reflect on the forms of accounting and financial information and tools commonly used to assess corporate financial performance and health, their potential limitations, and roles in management decision making
- Critically review the various tool used as KPIs in assessing corporate financial performance and health and justify the choice of tool used to evaluate a specific aspect of performance
- Explicate the various capital budgeting techniques available to evaluate investment projects and justify the choice of an appropriate capital budgeting model to evaluate a specific investment project
