Course overview
This course aims to equip learners with the finance principles, concepts, and tools program graduates and managers require to undertake informed discussion on and engage in strategic financial decision-making. Building upon accounting and finance principles introduced earlier, the importance of cash flow, risk, and time value of money in financial decision-making are emphasised. Upon completion, students will be able to determine project and firm cash flows, value bonds and stocks, evaluate firms financing and payout choices, estimate the cost of alternative sources of capital, and choose capital expenditure projects that maximise shareholder wealth using a wide range of analytical tools.

Course learning outcomes
- Critically review the roles of managers in corporate financial decision-making
- Commentate on the tools commonly used to support corporate financial decision making and apply time value of money concepts and tools in the corporate financial decision-making environment
- Critically reflect on the forms of risk relevant to the return on and pricing of investments and determine the required return on different sources of finance used in capital budgeting decisions
- Explicate the various capital budgeting techniques available to evaluate investment projects and justify the choice of an appropriate capital budgeting model to evaluate a specific investment project
- Interpret the impact that leverage, capital structure, and payout decisions have on firm cost of capital and firm value
