Course overview

This course deepens the critical thinking and formal reasoning applied in the study of macroeconomics and central banking.  It examines the role of money in the economy and the impact of monetary policy on the macroeconomy. 

The course develops models and methods of analysis with which to analyse the monetary system and its institutions.  

Course learning outcomes

  • Use models to analyse monetary and macroeconomic issues.
  • Explain how central banks conduct monetary policy.
  • Identify the economic fundamentals underlying the operation of financial intermediaries.
  • Conduct a theoretical analysis of real-world macroeconomic issues and phenomena.
