Course overview

Course description: This course looks at the structure and strategies of the Wealth Management industry in the Asia-Pacific region. It explores the needs of high-net-worth investors and the asset classes in which they invest. The rapid growth of private banking and family offices are explored in detail. Private Banking is an exclusive subset of wealth management.

We will examine traditional services offered by private banks and investment banks, as well as the newer solutions in this space. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the client segmentation and asset allocation strategies of private banks in Asia. In addition, we explore the needs, behaviours and investment strategies of millennials, next generation investors, endowments and foundations. Sustainable investing and impact investing will be explored as they become a key area of interest for both wealth managers and investors.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify the key trends that are shaping the wealth management industry. Global issues are explored with emphasis placed on Asia Pacific examples.
  • Compare the structures, operations, solutions and strategies of Private Banks and Family Offices in the Asia Pacific region
  • Examine the importance of client segmentation strategies
  • Explain the characteristics of various investor segments including; millennials, endowments and foundations, women and next generation.
  • Determine the core requirements of AML/CDD and KYC regulatory obligations.
