Course overview
This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of big data technologies and their applications in modern organisations. The main topics covered include an overview of big data technologies, the data analytics lifecycle, selection and application of appropriate big data analytics tools, and common data storage architectures. By the end of this course, learners will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to describe the role of data analytics in organizational improvement, apply the data analytics lifecycle to solve constrained problems, select and apply big data analytics tools, and describe common data storage architectures. This course prepares students to excel in data science roles and contribute effectively to organisations leveraging big data for strategic decision-making and innovation.

- Summarise how Big Data concepts can be used within an organisation to improve current processes, improve decision making, and to enhance the organisation's capabilities or products
- Explain the Big Data analytics lifecycle
- Describe common data storage architectures and determine the most suitable architecture for a case study
- Develop a non-relational database by adding structured and unstructured data and query the database
- Examine appropriate Big Data technologies and apply tools for solving problems involving Big Data
- Summarise how Big Data concepts can be used within an organisation to improve current processes, improve decision making, and to enhance the organisation's capabilities or products
- Explain the Big Data analytics lifecycle
