Course overview

This internship course will allow you to build and apply your broad, personal skills relevant to workplace settings, both within and beyond the discipline-specific skills acquired throughout your undergraduate course work. Training will be provided in career development skills and employability. Included within the course are opportunities for you to produce original work which strengthens and demonstrates your analytical, research and problem-solving skills; graduate-ready qualities that are essential for future employment. You will develop an understanding of the value of industry and professional networks and the importance of reflection, lifelong learning to career progression. The internship component will directly add to your experiences and resume while consolidating your confidence and the ability to contribute to a workplace. You will gain an awareness of the strengths you offer to a future employer. Through the internship, you will focus on developing and enhancing your employability skills, knowledge, experience and attributes that are valuable in professional settings within industries connected to your field of studies.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify and apply skills and capabilities acquired through prior learning in the student's degree program to effectively address industry demands and/or the requirements of the work placement provider
  • Apply and practice good communication skill in a variety of professional or cultural contexts to prepare briefs, technical reports or deliver presentations in line with current industry standards
  • Apply security and ethical principles within the workplace, including preservation of privacy, ensuring security measures, and upholding intellectual property rights
  • Reflect upon and evaluate the benefits of the internship experince, recognising and articulating the enhancement of employability skills gained through their practical application in a professional environment
  • Identify personal abilities and strenght tp facilitate the planning of a career pathway, including constructing an industry-standard profile that demonstrates the necessary employbility attributes
