Course overview

This course develops knowledge in topographic analysis and landform design in contemporary landscape architecture. Students will gain skills in modelling and visualizing earthworks, landform grading, and drainage patterns using both manual and digital modeling technologies. The course considers contour manipulation, vehicular and pedestrian circulation systems, road and path alignment along with hydrology. Students will be introduced to emerging technologies such as point clouds and photogrammetry and develop skills necessary to create accurate topographical representations and manipulate landforms for environmental and design objectives. The course aims to enhance students’ spatial understanding and design of landscapes, enabling them to create, visualise and communicate complex three-dimensional landforms professionally.

Course learning outcomes

  • Develop drawing and visualisation techniques to accurately document landforms
  • Construct a detailed physical and digital model of a contoured landform
  • Design projects that integrate a variety of landforms using relevant technologies
  • Create a set of documentation drawings and a model communicating landform
