Course overview

This course aims to equip learners with the skills to contribute to the development of sustainable urban growth which is grounded in knowledge of the history of theory in land use planning policy and practice as influenced by institutional, market and workplace culture factors. Emphasis is placed on the theoretical/conceptual foundations of urban and regional planning/city design since the ancient era through to the twentieth and twenty first century by examining the role of theory in different times and geographical contexts learners will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills which are essential to shape sustainable urbanization in the future. This course aligns with the program's intent to provide learners with comprehensive understanding of diverse perspectives on the role of planning theory in practice to equip them for the contemporary global context.
