Course overview
This course will develop students' digital-design communication skills and knowledge necessary to translate two-dimensional architectural drawings to computer-based digital design environments. Students will develop their skills and knowledge in digital design, including an introduction to two-dimensional and three-dimensional computer-based environments; systems of geometric representation, methods of navigation, and working with scale in specified Computer Aided Design software. Students will also explore the application of different materials in specified software using perspective viewpoints, systems of ordering and referencing drawings to industry conventions, and introductory lighting and rendering techniques.
Course learning outcomes
- Develop knowledge and skills to translate spatial information from two-dimensional architectural drawings to produce three-dimensional computer-based models to industry standard
- Apply basic digital graphic techniques and modelling to describe three-dimensional form and spatial relationships
- Develop knowledge and skills to compose and interpret scale, text, type, and dimensions in architectural drawings for documentation to industry standard
