Course overview
This course will introduce students to the design of medium-scale buildings through their spatial and material exploration, graphic communication, and speculative exploration through analogue and digital design media. Students will develop knowledge in representation theories and practice and their application to design project(s) of increasing complexity. Students will build upon their communication skills through the exploration of analogue methods and digital design media for design development, including spatial exploration, three-dimensional modelling, rendering, and digital design and multimedia applications.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply research and professional skills and knowledge in the conceptual and schematic design of buildings and environments of intermediate levels of complexity
- Analyse processes used in the design of the built environment and apply them to tectonic compositions that demonstrate an understanding of the relationship shared between people, human activities, and the natural and built environment
- Interpret, critically evaluate, and synthesise a defined project brief requirements into design proposals of increasing complexity
- Apply manual and digital graphic techniques and modelling to describe three-dimensional form and spatial relationships
