Course overview
This course will develop students' understanding of the design of small-scale buildings and their inter-relationship with physical and meta-physical aspects of context. Students will develop knowledge of the relationships between the design of small-scale buildings and their specific context, from the micro to macro scale. Students will develop knowledge and design skills to understand and respond to contemporary social, environmental, cultural, political, and ideological contexts through project-based design solutions, and the representational skills to communicate design solutions.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply research and professional skills and knowledge in the conceptual and schematic design of buildings and environments of intermediate levels of complexity
- Apply manual and digital graphic techniques and modelling to describe three-dimensional form and spatial relationships
- Identify relevant stakeholders and respond to their requirements through the formulation of an architectural brief
- Interpret and critically evaluate a defined project brief
- Integrate contextual information and observations (ideological, cultural, contextual, spatio-temporal, and pragmatic) into an architectural brief and design project
