Course overview

This course equips learners with essential knowledge and skills for developing and communicating architectural ideas through contemporary digital tools. It will introduce software for digital modelling, visualisation, and rendering, and explain relationship with computer aided manufacturing and fabrication. Learners will develop workflows between 2D and 3D data using a variety of techniques including drawing, photography, 3D scanning, data-modelling, and generative technologies. They will communicate this iterative and reflective process using disciplinary conventions and professional standards of verbal and graphic presentation. This course aligns with the program intent to develop disciplinary knowledge about analogue and digital graphic communication and creative-practice methods.

  • Digital Modelling Parametric And Generative Modelling
  • Building Information Modelling, Optimisation & Inter-Operability
  • Digital Fabrication, Design And Manufacture

Course learning outcomes

  • Utilise geometric and spatial concepts effectively to visualise architectural design in digital environments
  • Employ a variety of digital modelling, visualisation, and rendering software to communicate design ideas
  • Develop a cohesive workflow between 2D and 3D data using conventional and new digital techniques
  • Analyse the impact of computer aided design and manufacturing on contemporary architectural practice (illustrating the relationship between digital tools and evolution of new design methodologies)
  • Communicate design process through verbal and graphic means using disciplinary conventions and professional standards
