Course overview
This course will provide students with introductory construction skills and knowledge utilised in the design of buildings of a domestic scale, and to understand the role and conventions of architectural drawings and documentation in communicating design. Students will be introduced to the relationship of building structure to site, structural supporting strategies, building enclosure, materials, and the integration of building services. Students will apply structural and construction strategies to the design of domestic-scale buildings and communicate these strategies through architectural drawing and documentation.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply basic architectural drawing and documentation skills and methods for design communication and presentation for simple building projects
- Apply basic manual graphic techniques to describe three-dimensional form and spatial relationships
- Develop knowledge and skills to resolve design problems using basic structural and construction principles
- Develop knowledge and skills to represent three-dimensional information in two dimensional drawings to industry convention
- Identify and describe the level of technical information required to document a small-scale building
