Course overview
This course will develop students' foundational understanding of the nature, meaning, intention, and integrated characteristics of the design of buildings and environments for dwelling. Students will develop knowledge of the relationship between the human being, the design of small-scale buildings, and the notion of dwelling. Students will develop analytical and design skills which respond to contemporary social, environmental, cultural, and ideological contexts, and the representational skills to communicate design intentions and solutions.
Course learning outcomes
- Apply research and professional skills and knowledge in the conceptual and schematic design of simple buildings and environments
- Apply basic manual and digital graphic techniques and modelling to describe three-dimensional form and spatial relationships
- Apply knowledge and skills specific to concepts of dwelling, including understanding the relationship between people, human activities, and their environments in conceptual and schematic design
- Analyse processes used in the design of the built environment and apply them to tectonic compositions of increasing complexity
