Course overview

This course introduces students to key concepts, techniques, processes, skills, technologies, and theoretical foundations of computer-aided design (CAD) for visualising and communicating design intent. Students will explore various CAD tools and methods to create accurate and compelling visual representations of design objects. By the end of the course, students will gain proficiency in visualisation techniques and communication skills essential for presenting design ideas effectively, enhancing their ability to solve design problems and present coherent arguments.

  • Foundations Of Computer-Aided Design (Cad
  • 3-Dimensional Modelling/Visualisation
  • Practical Applications And Visual Communication

Course learning outcomes

  • Develop a comprehensive computer aided design (CAD) design project that incorporates 3D modelling, photorealistic computer-generated imagery (CGI) rendering, animation techniques, and immersive technologies, demonstrating proficiency in exporting CAD models and presenting coherent design concepts through a final project
  • Create and analyse 3D models using computer aided design (CAD) software by applying solid modelling operations under various design scenarios and evaluate their effectiveness in enhancing design workflows through the accurate use of key functionalities and terminologies
  • Implement design visualisation techniques using computer aided design (CAD) tools to communicate clear and precise design ideas and create complex geometric shapes, demonstrated through practical exercises and assignments
  • Apply international standards and best practices for product production documentation to produce high-quality design documents that meet global industry requirements, evidenced by comprehensive documentation projects
