Course overview

Comparative Animal Anatomy and Physiology II deals with basic physiological and anatomical principles in a wide variety of species. Beginning at the tissue level, the physiology and anatomy of major organ systems are covered. The course then takes an integrative approach allowing students to examine the breadth of these systems including disease mechanisms and sensory and cognitive functions of the whole animal.

  •  Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology
  • Integrating Systems I
  • Integrating Systems II

Course learning outcomes

  • Describe the basic anatomy & physiology of major organ systems of the body
  • Discuss the function of each organ system within the framework of the underlying principle of homeostasis
  • Describe and identify the variations in form and function between selected mammalian and avian species
  • Demonstrate skills in animal handling and experimentation
  • Demonstrate skills in literature analysis, scientific report writing and group study
