School of Engineering Teaching Facilities

Facilities for world-class teaching and research

The School of Chemical Engineering provides exceptional facilities that enable world-class teaching, learning, and discovery across chemical, materials, biopharmaceutical, and energy resources engineering. Our laboratories span the City East Campus (Engineering North/Annex, Helen Mayo North, and Santos buildings) and the Mawson Lakes Campus, complemented by a purpose-built Micro-brewery at the Waite Campus.

Students and researchers benefit from access to cutting-edge instrumentation, advanced pilot-scale systems, and shared University research infrastructure that fosters innovation and collaboration. These facilities support hands-on learning, industry engagement, and breakthrough research, empowering our community to design sustainable solutions, develop transformative technologies, and lead the future of chemical engineering.

Enabling innovation through advanced facilities

With more than 60 purpose-built laboratories, the School of Chemical Engineering offers an outstanding environment for innovation, collaboration, and hands-on learning. Our cutting-edge facilities include the Analytical Service Laboratories, Jesper Munch Quantum Laboratories, Materials in Energy and Catalysis Laboratories, Nanoengineering Systems Laboratories, Graphene Laboratories, Hydrothermal Processing Laboratories, Battery Laboratories, and Laboratories of Environment and Sustainability.

Further specialised spaces, such as the Pharmaceutical and Biomaterials Laboratories, Sustainable Process and Materials Engineering facilities, and Laboratories of Transport in Porous Media and Gas Storage support advanced research across the full spectrum of chemical, materials and resource engineering.

Our infrastructure is maintained by highly skilled technical and professional staff, ensuring the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and operational excellence. Together, these facilities create a vibrant ecosystem that enables discovery, fosters innovation, and empowers researchers and students to develop transformative solutions for a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable world.
