Global search for the new Adelaide University Vice Chancellor

Adelaide University’s Transition Council announces that it is working towards the appointment of a single Vice Chancellor to lead the transformation phase of Australia’s newest university from January 2026.

Pauline Carr, Chancellor of the Adelaide University Transition Council says “Following a competitive tender process, the Council has appointed Korn Ferry as its executive search partner and in line with its obligations under legislation, preparations are now well advanced for the global search to formally kick off in the next few weeks.

“The Council has great confidence in the leadership of the co-Vice Chancellors, Professors Peter Høj AC and David Lloyd who have been steadfast in their commitment to the creation of a university for the future. To guarantee the successful delivery of our new institution Adelaide University’s current co-Vice Chancellor leadership model will remain in place for 2025 ensuring the outcome of the complex transition program through to the opening of the new University on 1 January 2026.”

Professors Høj and Lloyd have shared with Council and staff that neither would be seeking to take on the role of the single Vice Chancellor at Adelaide University from 2026.

“We believe it is vital that our roles as co-Vice Chancellors are 100% focused on ensuring a successful opening of Adelaide University in 2026. Our commitment to one another, as long-standing colleagues, co-Vice Chancellors and friends, is to ensure the delivery of the new institution, match fit and ready, for passing on to a new Vice Chancellor.

“Our decision is made to further strengthen our existing firm focus on delivery of this next phase of the project through to Day One and indeed beyond. Our focus throughout 2025 will be on continuing to lead this journey as a strong, united and fully committed co-Vice Chancellor team, without any distractions.”

Chancellor Carr says “Staff, students, alumni and university stakeholders will be invited to share their views and perspectives on the key attributes for a successful appointee and national and international advertisements containing details of the application process for the new role will be placed from early February 2025.”
