In 1947 the Varley Scholarship was established at the University of Adelaide through a gift from John Varley. The scholarship supports undergraduate students studying viola, violin, violoncello or double bass, with preference given to a student of the viola at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be an undergraduate student studying viola, violin, violoncello or double bass
  • Be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident of Australia, New Zealand Citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
  • Be enrolled on a full time basis in a Commonwealth Supported Place 

Selection criteria

Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:

  • Musical talent and promise
  • Preference will be given to a student studying the viola

Important information

  • There is no application process for this scholarship, it will be directly awarded
  • You must meet all of the above listed criteria to be eligible
  • The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
  • Students receiving other Adelaide University Scholarships are eligible to receive this Scholarship
