The
Richard Oertel Memorial Grant is a perpetual award that honours the late Dr
Richard Oertel who lectured in mathematics at the Adelaide University’s
(previously UniSA’s) Whyalla Campus and previously at Mawson Lakes (formerly The
Levels).
The
grant will be awarded to a student who is enrolled full-time in the second or
third year of a Bachelor of Mathematics program at Adelaide University. The
recipient will receive up to $1‚000. The grant will be paid in a single
instalment of $1‚000 after the Semester 1 census date in the recipients’ second
or third year of study‚ provided the recipient maintains full-time enrolment
and satisfactory academic progress.
The grant is designed to assist recipients meet the costs associated with study including textbooks, travel costs, computing equipment or other out-of-pocket expenses.

Applicants will be asked to provide a personal written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:
- Reasons for studying their current program.
- Academic achievements.
- Future career goals.
- Any financial need that the applicant would like taken into consideration.
- How the grant will help meet study related expenses.
- The name of any scholarships or grants currently held (or where an application is pending).
Important information
The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic merit (minimum Grade Point Average of 4.5) and passion for mathematics as demonstrated in the personal written statement. Preference may be given to applicants facing financial need.Contact us
